Author Shout Out!

Today I wanted to celebrate all things Laura Diebelius. Laura approached me to work on the illustrations for her first picture book, 'I'm Going to Have a Sister' around a year ago. As soon as I read her manuscript I knew I'd love to bring it to life. We clicked straight away, and she fell in love with the first illustration I created of Lottie (which went on to become the front cover image).

What a journey that first book went on to have! Laura created her own imprint, worked tirelessly to build a loyal following on social media, got the book into her local library, and a brilliant little independent bookshop near to where she lives called, Read-On-Sea. She received seventy-two 5-star reviews on Amazon, (no easy feat!) and the book went on to win Gold at The Wishing Shelf Book Awards, and got nominated for another indie book award, plus best cover design for the cover I designed and illustrated.

She did what every good author should do and set to work on her next book, 'I'm Going to Have a Brother'. Earlier this year I had so much fun illustrating a new set of characters doing all sorts of fun things to bring the second book to life. Another huge hit with nothing but 5-star reviews, Laura decided to try for yet another milestone and sent her books to a few traditional publishing houses.

This summer I received a very exciting video call from Laura to tell me that both books had been accepted for a traditional publishing deal with Tiny Tree Books! I honestly couldn't be more thrilled for the gorgeous little books we created, and for Laura, who not only has the talent required to succeed, but also the tenacity to get where she wants to be. She has now fulfilled a life long dream, and taken the leap from indie author to becoming a traditionally published author in less than a year! I know this is just the beginning. There will be big things to come from this wonderful author. I'm proud to be part of your journey Laura.
